RAMMFIRE ROCKS!

Hi – I hope everyone is having a great week!

In some of the emails I have been getting and in some phone calls – there has been some questions about getting good tone when you are recording – especially if you are recording using a DAW or any other digital format.  You can do the traditional sm57 stuck in a cabinet and experiment with mic placement – this has been the traditional way to record some of the best recordings that have ever been done.  But there are also some digital pre amp and guitar effects that are computer driven that are getting closer and closer in terms of sonics and in terms of accuracy for those of us who might not have the time to experiment with mic placement or don’t have access to a great sounding room to record in.  The paragraphs that follow are not an advertisement – but one of many options that do exist for recording today.  Please keep in mind that I’m writing about this as a response to some of the questions that have risen in our community and I hope that no one considers this article to be a conflict of interest.  It is not intended to be one.

Like some of you, I am getting a song ready for the “Praising Him Loudly:  Volume One” compilation disc.  After discussing this with different CatholicMetal community members and spending some time in prayer, – I decided to throw a song in for the project.

I have the drums recorded and I just finished recording the bass.  I”m at the stage where I am going to take my time to record the guitars. I was playing around with a Native Instrument product called “Rammfire” which is an addition to Guitar Rig 4.  It was modeled after Richard Z. Kruspe – he’s one of the guitarists from one of my fav bands of all time – Rammstein!!  The sounds are all modeled after his setup – he uses a Pre-500 Dual Rectifier Amp and Richard has worked very closely with Native Instruments to tailor the sounds. I started laying down some tracks tonight and it was really easy to use….it has the RAMMFIRE  Amp, a matched cabinet and a Control Room.  It also comes with about 30 rack presets and has tones of amp and cabinet modelling as well.

If you are curious, there is a free demo version that you can get   here – http://www.nativeinstruments.com/#/en/products/producer/powered-by-guitar-rig/rammfire/?page=1878

I’ll put up some tracks when I am closer to finishing the song.   But – like all equipment – whether it is digital or analogue – whether it is vintage or the latest technology – we have to remember three things….1) your tone is in your fingers….2) your ears are the best judge – give them the time to listen that they deserve…and 3) I always start my recording sessions with a prayer asking the Holy Spirit to use me, that what I do is more of Christ and less of me and to ask St. Cecilia to pray for me/us as we are writing/recording.

If  you can keep these 3 things in your mind you can’t help but write and record beautiful things in the name of Jesus our Lord and His Holy Catholic Church – Amen!!!

Yours In Christ,
