New Katholicus Video/Old Song

Glory to God! Have posted a new video of our song “The Crusader-the Pilgrimage” from our 2010 CD, “The Calling.” This track is a rock/metal instrumental. Musically it is inspired by my admiration for Michael Schenker. Spiritually, it reflects the spiritual/moral battles we all have, yet in the end a deep prayer life, devotion to the Most Sacred Heart, the Holy Euchariast, and the Immaculate Heart bring us through it all to times of intimacy with the Lord, and the end part, “the Pilgrimage,” reflects this. Hope you are edified and inspired in some way. Check it out.

    Thank you, Chuck!

It is most appreciated.  In terms of song-composition-structures, Kansas has always been an influence. So it’s there even when I’m not consciously thinking of them. And, yes, the interior battle is of the highest importance. As St. Padre Pio once wrote: everything – our eternal end- is the result of the interior battle we all have and HOW we face it. And thank you for the encouraging words about musical growth. It’s interesting how both you and A-D pointed this out. I’m never satisfied with what Katholicus puts out -always hoping to write (or mystically find) the perfect song to please our Perfect Lord. “Veronica”, IMHO, has come closest, and most of it just “came to me” immediately after Sean from Last Rites ask me to contribute to the Via Crucis. Anyway, it is good to have fellow Metal loving practicing Catholics to have around for encouragment and discussion.

    Glory!

Thank you so very much, A-D.  Your point about improvement is gladly accepted. That is what I am always trying to do because, just like our spiritual life, we either grow and improve or we fall (either slowly or quickly). There is no sustained status quo either spiritually or musically. Also We of Katholicus all appreciate the time you take to listen to and view our song/videos on Youtube, and the fact that you make comments. Your comments stand out because we have so few who watch them anyway. We have a very small fan-base – mostly because of my poor promo-marketing efforts. I know there are a lot more Catholics and others who profess Christ who appreciate old-school melodic power metal. We just have get them to find us and for us to find them. Keep fighting the Good Fight, and remember, nothing can replace a life of prayer and devotion strengthened by frequent reception of the Holy Sacraments. There is no other food for the spiritual life.

I know it’s an easy thing, but we have to take advantage of social media to grow the fan base.  I posted “Sanctus Mysterium” on two of my friends’ walls (as well as my own), and it started getting positive results.  I know it’s not the only way, or even necessarily the best way, but get that music out there any way possible!  Back in the old underground days, we passed along everything that was cool to everybody else.  YouTube and Facebook allow us to “tape trade” without actually trading any tapes.  I got positive feedback (and constructive criticism) for Scourge’s video when I posted it on my Facebook page.  We have to keep it up! – CvHTP

Hey Chuck, I can’t find you on FB, even though I typed “Chuck Abraham” and looked at result lists (they all definitely don’t listen to death metal, LOL). Maybe you could find me. My Facebook fake name is “Jacob Villabos Ross,” or you can go to Catholic Metal page and find that name there on my post for my video. I need to know the criticisms. I totally messed up on certain parts of the song there. GOD Bless!!!

It was cool, and I have to agree with chuck. You guys did get better, notably with “Condemned to Death,” and “Veronica” stabs my heart (not talkin’ about the organ). I can relate to “Veronica,” since I’ve had my Veronicas help me out, and I’m kind of being called to be like Veronica as well, as we all are, but I’m young and fresh in my faith so it’s brutal for me, LOL. I can also relate to “Condemned to Death,” since, being bullied in the past, I feel like people deemed me deserving to die, like I wasn’t human (basic form of dehumanization, as worse forms would be sexual usury and genocide). I also just love the sound. Thanks for using your talents guys!!! Praise GOD for giving them to you! GOD Bless, and keep it metal for JESUS!!!

Adam – I like the song!  I’d say that the keyboards in there kind of remind me of Kansas and even shades of Jon Lord from Deep Purple, and I do hear Schenker in that song, but I hear so much more.  That said, I think your new music is better.  “Sanctus Mysterium”, “Condemned to Death”, and “Veronica”, after listening to this song, I think shows how much you’ve grown in the last couple of years.  All musicians need that growth as artists, and I think your newer music shows that growth.  As far as the subject matter that inspired it, I can totally relate.  Two of my songs, “The Battle in Heaven and Earth” and “Spiritual Warfare” deal with these kind of battles, the latter of which is the one we all seem to fight.  Keep fighting the good fight, my Brother, and all of you Brothers in Christ and Brothers in Metal! – CvHTP
