Last Rites – The Catholic Metal Thread

Howdy everyone,

This is the official Last Rites promotion/information thread on Catholic Metal.  Last Rites is (roughly) a thrash metal band.  The mission is to provide a message of God’s mercy to all those that need it.  The name Last Rites illustrates to me that in this powerful sacrament, we always have God’s mercy to rest on even in our last hours.  Much of the lyrics are personal and contemplative…in other words, I mean for the lyrics to be thought about, not just heard.

There are two releases currently, the Demo “Extreme Unction” and the full length album “Dark Night of the Soul”.  I have the demo and a couple of the songs from DNOTS up for free download through the myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/lastritesmetal.  DNOTS is available for purchase through the myspace page and all major download vendors (iTunes, Rhapsody, Amazon mp3 etc) as well.

Two bits of news EXCLUSIVE for Catholic Metal:

1.  A new FREE EP will be released in the early part of 2011.  The title is “I am Dismas” and features a song about St. Dismas, the good thief.  Also will feature the song “Victory’s Assured” featuring lyrics by Greg Edwards (Vigilance Saints Arise).  I hope to unveil the cover art and redesigned myspace page by the end of the year.

2.  I have on my plate an album/project of epic proportions and I want/need collaborators on it.  I plan on doing an album entirely on the Stations of the Cross…one song per station.  I want this more to be a collaboration with fellow Catholic musicians and friends than a grandiose exposition of my musical writings.  I would like this to be a definitively Catholic metal project…not just Sean playing music :)  If you are interested, please feel free to e-mail me at lastriteschristianmetal@yahoo.com.  By the way, I need an SATB choir if you got one :)

God bless you all!  Keep Catholic metal alive and spread the word about these wonderful bands!

I think  a Stations of the Cross album is a great idea.  It could be a great sampler of Catholic metal for those who have not had a chance to hear who’s out there.

I’d be happy to contribute a song station, preferably the 13th or 14th one…

Hey Paolo!  Ever since you wrote that I have been doing some contemplating on this album.  I am deciding to look into doing this as a collborative compilation sort of a thing rather than “Last Rites”.  I am going to do a new post in just a sec to explain…the Holy Spirit is working through you my friend!

You know, that’s funny, because we in Malign Expulsion were discussing something like that… It’d be pretty sick to find enough bands to do a compilation, one band for each station, and release it around Lent… Just a thought. :)

Great song man. For reasons unknown parts of that song are very Megadeth-y to me. And I love me some Megadeth.  Kind of reminiscent of Diadems (just certain parts). What I am trying to say is this. It’s awesome. Thanks.
