Decisions, decisions…..

I was on facebook the other day and I was chatting back and forth with fellow Catholic Metal member Craig Moran.  We were both talking about Native Instruments Komplete software and I decided to open up a question in the forums.  I am currently using Komplete 8 Ultimate and Native Instruments just came out with Komplete Ultimate 9.  This software is a little pricey, but I was hoping we could generate some conversation about this product.  I have a lot of Native Instrument software and the upgrade to 9 would only add about 5 or 6 different synths/upgrades to what I already have.  Do you think that the upgrade cost is worth it?? Also,  how often should a software company provide us with upgrades??  I consider this an interesting question – possibly because I have been recording since the early 1990s.  Back then, the Internet was totally different as well as the technology in terms of the “home studio.”  I can remember when we had to master to DAT tapes, – yes- I’m that old…LOL!!   Back then, I was using Acid 2.0 and the only way to upgrade was to buy Acid 3.0/4.0 as a physical package.  Getting upgrades over the internet was not possible yet, we had phone link internet and you were lucky to download even the smallest bit of information over an entire afternoon.  Now, we can upgrade software and other computer related applications in minutes.  I’m totally impressed by companies like Celemony (Melodyne), Native Instruments and others in terms of the care/customer service they have – emails are sent notifying me of  upgrades that I can download and use at my leisure.  So back to my original question, – how often do you think a company should offer upgrades? Also, while we are at it – what upgrades should be free and which upgrades should have a small fee??

Looking forward to hearing from you about this.

    Yours In Christ!

I have Komplete 7 and I want to know if the upgrade to 9 is warranted.

No, Dave, I haven’t made the jump.  I’m saving my money for the time being.

    Here is a quick update!

I have been using Presonus One Version Two Professional and I haven’t looked back. The ability to automate on the fly and other great features have saved so much studio time. The third party plugins I’m using are working flawlessly. The only time I had a problem was using Addictive Drums, but opening the DAW as an administrator solved that problem easily. I love the ability of (get ready for this!) converting MIDI to wave and wave to MIDI!! You can create some really amazing effects using this and can create totally unbelievable soundscapes. I’ll have a more detailed review once PHL3 is done…by the way it is done and should be released this weekend!! See – there’s a reason why you should visit the forums once in a while….LOL!!

    Yours in Christ!
