The Countdown is On…

CLOCK

Hi Everyone! It’s hard to believe that there is only 3 weeks left until the deadline for PHL3. Please keep in mind a couple of things:
1) You can submit your songs and submission form early before the December 1st, 12:00 a.m. deadline.
2) You don’t have to have a “brand new” song recorded – it can be an older recording – just as long as it hasn’t been on any Catholicmetal.com recording project in the past.
3) When you click on the submission form, a second page comes up and you need to click on the submission form again. It will download and you can fill it in
and email it to me at dave@catholicmetal.com with all the pertinent information.
4) The song must be an unmastered .wav file – no other form will be accepted or considered!
5) You can submit up to two (2) songs per artist or band.

Thanks to the bands who have submitted their material early. If you submit your material early, I will get back to you quickly so you won’t have to wait until the December
1st deadline for confirmation of your song.

If anyone is having any problems with their recording whether it’s a time issue or a mixing issue – please let me know asap!

At this point, I’d like to make the community aware of an awesome website; if you are having trouble with using recording software – there are a lot of forums, tutorials on youtube and the best
resource – there are some people on line that have blogs or websites that give answers to common recording software issues. One website that I have found to be totally amazing is www.groove3.com – this website has tutorials for almost every major piece of recording software that is on the market and the training videos are done by leaders in the recording field. I just recently watched KONTAKT Explained by Eli Krantzberg – it was an amazing tutorial/refresher course on how to use all the features in Native Instruments KONTAKT. The training video was broken up into 8 sections (e.g. everything from “Getting Started” to “Advanced Editing” and “Working with Effects”). I’ve used KONTAKT for years, but everytime I have watched this video, I walk away with something new to try during my next recording session. Again, I really encourage our community to share their success stories and software/hardware that really works for them. Groove3.com is part of my arsenal; especially if you have a new piece of software and you want to learn how to use it over a weekend and not over a couple of months. Normally an “All Access Pass” is way beyond my budget – but during the month of November it’s only US$99 for one year. This “All Access Pass” gives you the ability to watch all of the videos on your computer at home or (using the new app) on your Iphone or Android device. Everything from Garritan, to Superior Drummer 2 – to Native Instruments and Sonar – from Presonus Studio One to Pro Tools is all explained by industry professionals. There are also videos on recording techniques like recording vocals and live drums on a budget. I don’t want to sound like an infomercial, but this website is one of the best kept “secrets” that a lot of pro engineers use if they need to learn new software or need a “refresher” course. If you have any questions about this or any comments – please let me know either in this post or send them to dave@catholicmetal.com.

Thanks for reading the post and good luck with your recording projects!

Yours In Christ!
